API

The SkillEngine API is how an organisation's systems ask TechWolf for data, whenever they need it: a request returns the authoritative current state of whatever it asks for, and the same interface carries changes back into the tenant. TechWolf is API-first, so everything the platform infers and governs is available this way.

It is the surface TechWolf's own standard integrations and the Console are themselves built on, and organisations build on it the same way: feeding in-house tools and analytics, keeping another system's data in step, and connecting whichever systems they choose.

Key attributes

Full data coverage
The API exposes every entity in the tenant: employees, jobs and job families, courses, vacancies, organisational units, skills and the taxonomy, together with matching, reports, and bulk exports.
Live data
API responses reflect the data at the time of the request, so integrations built on it always work from the current state of the tenant.
Scoped access
Authentication uses OAuth 2.0, and every credential carries scopes that determine what it can read and write, so an integration gets exactly the access it needs.
Stable versioning
Each tenant is pinned to an API version. Compatible changes arrive automatically; breaking changes only apply when the organisation asks for a version update, so integrations keep working without surprise changes.

How it works

The API is organised around REST: it accepts and returns JSON and uses standard HTTP response codes and verbs. TechWolf issues credentials per tenant, and requests are made against the tenant's own base URL in its region. For bulk retrieval, the API offers export endpoints that return data page by page.

The full reference, including an OpenAPI specification and per-endpoint documentation, lives in TechWolf's developer documentation, which is how most integration teams work with the API day to day.

Prerequisites

The API is part of TechWolf's output integrations. It requires SkillEngine API credentials issued by TechWolf for the organisation's tenant.

Availability

  • Console: integration credentials are managed in the Console.
